STEP 1 – MEDICAL OVERVIEW

STEP 2 – ORAL EXAM
To begin the procedure, we always perform an oral exam. We thoroughly examine the dog’s mouth to ensure that there are no problems that require anesthetic to solve. We closely examine each tooth for any signs of mobility, complicated tooth fractures, and/or other dental diseases.
STEP 3 – SCALING
This step is to remove calculus, plague, and toxins build-up from the tooth.

STEP 4 – CURETTAGE
We use “curette” (a hand-scaling instrument designed to be used under the gum line) to remove tartar and plague.
STEP 5 – PROBING
This step is to measure the depth of the periodontal pockets often found in an affected tooth. Pockets are detected by gently placing a periodontal probe under the gingival margin in several locations around the tooth.
STEP 6 – POLISHING
We polish off the tooth surface to remove small defects and irregularities that occur during the cleaning process. Smoothing also helps in decreasing plague retention and slows down the formation of calculus.
STEP 7 – IRRIGATION
After cleaning and polishing, debris will be present in the gingival sulcus. We remove these using Chlorhexidine to prevent irritation of the soft tissue. Chlorhexidine is an effective irrigant.
STEP 8 – CHARTING
At this point you are ready to chart all pathology present in the your pet’s mouth.
